Tips apartment search pet owners

Cambridge and Somerville rentals can be unfriendly towards pets. Cats and dogs are not usually welcome in most Cambridge and Somerville apartments. The reason for this is that the rental market is very competitive and landlords do not need to risk damage of their property from pets. If you have a pet, expect to be searching for a Cambridge or Somerville apartment extensively, have fewer options when searching, and potentially have to pay a higher premium for a Cambridge or Somerville apartment. When you find an apartment that works for you and your pets, ACT QUICKLY before it is gone.

We know that our pets are a member of our families and finding a home for them is as important as finding one for ourselves. Providing the best possible references for your pets from previous landlords will help in the process, so having this prepared will save time and allow you to secure your prospective new home. Some landlords will want to know dog breed, weight, medical history and to see a photo or even meet the dog in some cases.

If you are traveling to the Greater Boston area with your pet, Dog Friendly has a collection of dog friendly hotels, tourist attractions, restaurants and shopping destinations that will let your own man's best friend tag along.

Cambridge has specific dog ordiances that should be noted regarding licenses, leashing and waste removal.

PET FRIENDLY PLACES IN THE CAMBRIDGE / SOMERVILLE AREA

Not only can it be a challenge to find an apartment to accomodate your furry friends, but keeping them cooped up in the city can be tough on them. There are plenty of places in the city to get them out to stretch your legs.

See this Map for areas in Cambridge where your dog can run free off of their leash legally.

Fort Washington is located on 101 Waverly Street, is an unfenced park, and is right by the water.

Pacific Street Dag Park is a fenced in dog park that also has parking on the street.

Danehy Park is another fenced in park that is a smaller area for dogs to roam but the park provides drinking water for the dogs and has benches for owners to keep their eyes on their pet while they converse amongst each other.
